Mey SYSTEMS GmbH has been an owner-managed FAMILY COMPANY for over five decades, which has specialised in the development and production of seating furniture for the industrial and workshop sector. Originating from the traditional craftsmanship of contract welding, today meychair is one of the leading manufacturers of swivel work chairs, sit stands and stools.

It is therefore a matter of course for us that most of our series have been certified by TÜV Rheinland with the GS mark and that we always follow the current DIN standard 68877 for industrial and work chairs and DIN standard 4556 for footrests.

From the idea through development to the finished model, we attach particular importance to safety and quality.

Decades of experience and outstanding expertise make the meychair brand an innovative and reliable partner.

Hardly any other manufacturer has such a wide range of SEATING FURNITURE products for industrial and workshop areas. SEATING SOLUTIONS, coordinated down to the last detail and TAILORED to the requirements of workplaces, prove the great expertis of meychair. In addition, custom-made products are also part of the portfolio, as is the construction of special solutions. Decades of experience provide a basis of expertise for the development of, for example, XXL seating solutions. The Comfort sit stands from the meychair brand, which can take loads of up to 200 kg, are market leaders.

The CUSTOMER is always in the foreground with us. In order to guarantee the best possible SERVICE, the company has always attached great importance to qualified and long-term employees. They are on hand to advise customers, find the RIGHT SEATING SOLUTION for every request and enable CUSTOM PRODUCTS according to individual specifications. SERVICE is always capitalised at meychair!

In addition, a global network of over 1,000 RETAILERS and sales partners ensures that customers around the world can enjoy the meychair brand. Despite being a GLOBAL PLAYER, Mey CHAIR SYSTEMS GmbH is deeply rooted in its HOME in Upper Franconia. The area, the regional economy and the local associations are particularly important to the family-run company in its THIRD GENERATION.

Sitting relaxed, sitting upright, sitting actively. As with a garment that “fits” and thus has the ideal shape, ergonomic seating is all about the matching chair with the perfect fit.

The mey team’s creativity in developing its chair systems and swivel chair components is reflected in an extensive range of products. No matter whether striking in design or rather subtle, every new model is preceded by a clear vision in which the whole person and his or her health are always focussed on.

Flexibility runs like a thread through the entire production process at meychair. In close cooperation with the customer, this central thread becomes an elastic band: from the production start to delivery, interaction is possible at any time.

Company history

Successful family business for 50 years

Joachim Mey laid the foundation for today’s company in 1965 as a contract welder. With great commitment and a lot of joy, Mr Joachim Mey stood in the workshop almost every day into old age and never missed the opportunity to actively participate in development and construction. The most innovative solutions and plans were developed together with him. His gaze was always directed towards the future – standing still or even retirement was out of the question for him. He could always be sure of the support of his wife and colleague Helga Mey. After all, it was thanks to her talent for welding that the company was able to quickly achieve success in the beginning.

Foundation of Joachim Mey KG, Moderne Stuhl- und Tischsysteme with Joachim Mey as general partner and his two sons Dieter Mey (sales and purchasing) and Bernhard Mey (technology) as limited partners. The company developed height adjustment and extension fittings for tables and sold them to well-known manufacturers in Germany. These fittings were initially produced in-house, and from 1986 onwards they were manufactured in what was then Yugoslavia by Tvornica Opruga in Varazdinske Toplice and by Metal- Ker Kft. in Zalalövö/Hungary. In addition, the first office and industrial swivel chair models with special features were developed during this phase.

Cooperation with the GDR trading company GENEX and the well-known GDR car manufacturers Trabant and Wartburg for the production of add-on parts, such as front and rear spoilers and wing extensions.

Foundation of the joint venture EURO- FURNITURE in Guangzhou/ China by Dieter Mey together with Mr. Jackson Ma of Goldwood International Hong Kong for the production of swivel chair components for export and swivel chairs for the Chinese market.

Founding of another joint venture GLOBE SEATING in Foshan/ China together with Mr. Ngai Hin Yee of Sheentech in Hong Kong for the production of high-quality swivel chair components exclusively for export.

Foundation of Mey CHAIR SYSTEMS GmbH by Dieter Mey as part of the company succession and for the takeover of the operative business division. Takeover of Joachim Mey KG as a holding company with Dieter Mey as general partner and Benedikt Mey as limited partner.

Participation in INCO International Components Supply Ltd, an international trading company in Hong Kong.

Foundation of Mey Hong Kong Ltd. as a holding and investor for international company investments

Foundation of Mey Chair China Liuzhou Limited for the production of industrial swivel chairs for the Chinese domestic market and as a representative office of Mey Chair Systems GmbH in China.

Mey CHAIR SYSTEMS is the first to develop its own product line especially for musicians and successfully introduces Mey Music on the market.

Mey CHAIR SYSTEMS GmbH is appointed to the standards committee of German industry and plays a key role in the development of standards for swivel work chairs.

Foundation of Mey America LLC in Cookeville/ Tennessee/ USA.

Foundation of Mey CHAIR SYSTEMS d.o.o. in Varazdin/ Croatia for the distribution of Mey products in Croatia and neighbouring countries.

In the course of the succession, the sons Benedikt and Tobias Mey, who have been working in the company for many years, join as co-managing directors with corresponding areas of responsibility.

All corporate divisions are firmly consolidated under the new umbrella brand meychair and are modern and innovative, geared towards the future.

Dieter Mey retires as an active managing director and has since been working for the company in an advisory capacity.

The meychair brand is starting the year 2021 with a new corporate identity.

Dieter Mey hands over 51% of his business shares to his sons. Benedikt and Tobias Mey are now managing partners.
